English Language Centre - Speaking at University In-Person

Speaking at University is a friendly, interactive series for students who want to feel more confident speaking in university life. Whether you’re contributing in seminars, explaining ideas, joining discussions, listening actively, or building an argument, these sessions help you develop practical strategies for real academic situations. The sessions are open to all students, but they are especially useful for international and multilingual students who want a supportive space to practise, reflect, and connect with others. Expect discussion, collaboration, useful language, and ideas you can use straight away in class and beyond.

Turn-taking

Do you ever find it hard to know when to speak, how to join in, or how to make space for others? This session focuses on turn-taking in discussions, helping you develop practical strategies for joining conversations confidently and contributing in a balanced, respectful way.
