English Language Centre - Speaking at University In-Person
Speaking at University is a friendly, interactive series for students who want to feel more confident speaking in university life. Whether you’re contributing in seminars, explaining ideas, joining discussions, listening actively, or building an argument, these sessions help you develop practical strategies for real academic situations. The sessions are open to all students, but they are especially useful for international and multilingual students who want a supportive space to practise, reflect, and connect with others. Expect discussion, collaboration, useful language, and ideas you can use straight away in class and beyond.
Active listening
Strong communication starts with listening. In this session, you’ll explore what active listening looks like in practice and try out strategies that help conversations feel more natural, supportive and meaningful in both academic and everyday situations.
