English Language Centre - Speaking at University In-Person

Speaking at University is a friendly, interactive series for students who want to feel more confident speaking in university life. Whether you’re contributing in seminars, explaining ideas, joining discussions, listening actively, or building an argument, these sessions help you develop practical strategies for real academic situations. The sessions are open to all students, but they are especially useful for international and multilingual students who want a supportive space to practise, reflect, and connect with others. Expect discussion, collaboration, useful language, and ideas you can use straight away in class and beyond.

Speaking in different contexts

University speaking is not just one thing. In this session, you’ll explore the different situations where students speak at university, from one-to-one meetings to small groups and larger class discussions. You’ll reflect on your own experiences and build confidence for speaking across a range of contexts.
