Session 2: Critical writing This session focuses on developing your ability to write critically rather than just descriptively. You will learn the difference between describing information and evaluating it, and why critical thinking is essential in academic writing. Through examples and tasks, you will practise identifying features of critical writing, such as comparing ideas, evaluating evidence, and questioning assumptions. You will also analyse sample texts to see how writers express their own voice and position. By the end, you will be able to improve your writing by adding more analysis, interpretation, and evaluation to your work.
