This session is aimed at staff and students and will to introduce some of the library’s specialist digital resources, including Ancestry.com and The Social History Archive (Find My Past), and will enable attendees to use them for their own family history research.
Participants will learn how to navigate these databases effectively to locate historical records and trace familial connections, gaining hands-on experience working with census data, birth, marriage and death records, and other digital archival material.
Open to all levels of experience, this hybrid session offers an accessible starting point for anyone interested in exploring their family history, developing research skills, or engaging with social history through primary sources. By the end of the session, participants will be equipped with the skills needed to begin tracing their own family histories using the library’s online collections.
To explore your own family history we recommend having basic information about grandparents on hand. Alternatively you can choose a historical figure or institute.
This workshop will take place in Training room 2, 2nd floor of the Sydney Jones Library and you can also join online.
