Making sense of metrics and using them responsibly In-Person

Do you know how the journal impact factor is calculated? Do you know why it was originally invented? The answer may surprise you. Metrics like the impact factor and h-index are used a lot amongst researchers but very few people tend to know what exactly they measure or how they are calculated, and crucially how they are flawed.

In this session Sarah will talk about:

  • Key metrics, how they are calculated, what they measure
  • How most metrics are flawed and in what way
  • Which metrics to use and how to use them responsibly in line with DORA
