How does academic publishing work? In-Person

All researchers have to publish but when has anyone ever explained to you how academic publishing actually works? You’re expected to know about copyright, which journal to publish in and which ones to definitely avoid – but how do you find this out?!

In this session Sarah will talk about:

  • The different publishing models, subscription and Open Access, and who pays and profits in each
  • Copyright in publishing, who owns it and how creative commons licences work
  • How to get started in choosing a journal to publish in
  • Journals to avoid – predatory publishers
  • Monograph publishing (audience dependent)
